Who is A Better Calgary Party?
We are a membership-driven organization working with Calgarians to bring the people of this city into the political process.
What are your values and principles?
We have a comprehensive draft set of principles that the volunteers who have helped start this party have formed and will be ratified at our AGM.
They are centered around bringing City Hall back to basics, to focus on essential services and common sense; to champion accountability, transparency and accessibility at City Hall for everyone; and to empower Calgarians to get involved in their communities and to actively participate in democracy.
What are your policies?
The A Better Calgary Party will not be putting forward policies. That will be up to the candidates. The role of the ABC Party is to elect candidates based on the values and principles, as determined by our membership, and for those candidates to develop their own policies.
Are you affiliated with any other group, organization or political party?
No, we are not associated with other groups or parties, this includes provincial or federal political parties. We are a stand-alone organization focused only on municipal politics.
As a big-tent member based organization, we are hoping to build and grow to thousands of members who will come from a variety of backgrounds and interests. We feel this broad, welcoming approach will ensure we serve all Calgarians.
What do you mean by ‘big-tent,’ what are you doing to ensure diversity is represented?
We feel our values and principles are rooted in common sense, fiscal responsibility, accountability, transparency and a love for this city as a whole and the communities within it.
This will resonate with people from all backgrounds, regardless of religion or ethnicity. People should be judged by their character and not by their race or the religion they subscribe to.
Do you already have candidates?
We do not have any candidates at this time. We believe that it needs to start with the people of Calgary and that the election of candidates will be up to our membership. We believe that Calgary has the leaders we need and this process will provide the tool kit to be successful.
Who is your board of directors?
We do not yet have a board of directors, they will be elected at the founding convention. The party launch has been put together by a diverse group of volunteers.
How can I help?
You can get involved by joining as a member, signing up to volunteer, and/or making a donation.
