We believe a municipal party can improve the political process.

We believe a municipal party will restore true democracy in action, which has been missing at City Hall.

It’s time to fix our broken system that allows municipal leaders to be chosen by the few or self-appointed.

It’s time to bring the voice of the people back into our political process.

We believe a municipal party is good for candidates, good for donors and good for voters.

Good for candidates:

  • Provides the campaign infrastructure, including resources and volunteers, removing this barrier for candidates so they can focus on being in their communities.
  • Delivers better candidates through a thorough nomination and vetting process.
  • Narrows the field for a candidate, reducing the chances of vote splitting.
  • Creates opportunity, through a nomination process, to build a high-quality platform as candidates focus on local issues while building their name and political skills.

Good for donors:

  • Delivers a higher probability of success for candidates who align with a donor’s values.
  • Increases donation efficiency by concentrating resources on fewer candidates.
  • Lowers overall costs by mobilizing volunteers and centralizing data.
  • Improves positive outcomes, by preventing duplication of efforts.

Good for voters:

  • Provides transparency to voters, making it easy to decide whether or not a candidate aligns with their values.
  • Improves the democratic process. As unofficial ‘parties’ or slates have long been operating, Bill 20 puts regulations around how parties can operate, which will level the playing field and prevent deals from being made behind closed doors.
  • Connects voters to elected officials, by facilitating access and democratic accountability.
  • Creates opportunity for voter engagement and volunteerism, which builds community.

As a broad centre-right coalition of Calgarians, we believe that by coming together, we can effectively champion change at City Hall. Calgarians deserve the best and a political party will support accountability, accessibility and common sense from our municipal leaders.

We also believe that a member-driven organization is the best way to choose candidates who are representative of Calgarians in the next election. Nomination contests will provide party members the platform to help select the best candidates, restoring transparency to the voting process.

In the 2021 Calgary civic election, more than $7 million was donated. If we exclude Third-Party Advertisers, that means 70% of every dollar raised did not deliver a winning vote.

Isn’t it time for Calgarians to get better results?

Let’s embrace A Better Calgary Party as THE vehicle for change to make sure Calgary is the best place to live, work, play, raise a family, and do business in for generations to come.
